Cultural differences

Yesterday I had class and we were discussing the bad behaviours and the "ugly" topics that we have in our country compare with the ones they have here, in Finland. It was funny because I said that in Spain you can talk about every topic you want, you are in public transport and you can listen to conversations about politics, religion, clothes, sexuality, weather, trips, etc. obviously depends on the person but you can talk mostly about everything; and people from other countries were really surprised by that,  for example, in Finland is not polite to talk about money, it´s an annoying topic for them. And I think that in Spain we are more open-minded than here.
It´s funny to find so many differences between countries, also they said in the class that it´s really unpolite if you speak loud on the bus, and in Spain, everyone is talking quite loud. One girl also told me that when she went to Tenerife, she was waiting for the bus and the people who were waiting also were really close to her and she didn´t feel comfortable with it, because here people keep the distance.
Here, in Erasmus, you really discover all the differences we have between nationalities and the strength of the culture. It´s really good to open your eyes and realize that not everyone is like you, not everyone likes the things you like, not everyone has your customs or understand your jokes. It´s an opportunity which gives you a lot of culture and knowledge about life and countries and makes you very rich.

Vappu

Vappu is the most important student party in Turku (and in Finland, I think), the main day is the first of May, but this week there were a lot of events going on. And the best part is the weather because there was incredible weather, so everything was better. Also, I was sad because at least two events were cancelled, and one of them was really interesting for me, even my tutor had suggested it :( So, this week I have Lost in Turku (last post), then this event which was cancelled, but I cooked tortilla with some friends and then we went to play pool, another day we went to the river just to drink and chill and it was really nice, there was an attraction park also (I didn´t have entrance) but we went to see how it was and it was very crowded and after that I went to a concert of Finnish bands and then I went out. There is also an event today and then next week is coming with a lot of parties and the Vappu day! Finally people are in the streets!!

Tallinn

I want to talk about one of the trips I made here, is not Finland, but it was during my Erasmus so I think it´s interesting to share the experience. I spent more or less three days in Tallinn with some friends in a hostel, and it was really good and funny! We went to Helsinki to take a ferry to Tallinn (that was the worst part because we had to wake up around 4 a.m) and we went one day to Riga (I will make another post for it). My trip didn´t start the best way, because when we arrived at the ferry I realized that I had lost one of the wheels of my luggage, so you can imagine!! Also, the hostel was a bit weird at some points but it was very cheap and the room for the 8 of us was really big. We went around the city and I have to say that it´s very beautiful! (and also very cold, although it was sunny so I was really happy to see the sun shining again). We ate in a pancake place a pancake (of course) which was delicious, but our gastronomy wasn´t really variety, cause we ate in an It...

Porvoo

My family came to visit me last week, so I went to Helsinki to pick them and we decided to visit Porvoo because it´s near Helsinki. Porvoo is a very small town for almost one hour by bus from Helsinki. We took an Onnibus bus in the morning and we spend a couple of hours there. It has these typical red wooden house next to the river and a small old town, but it´s nice to walk through the streets. There is a church with a tower and a lot of wooden houses all around. There is a ski slope in the city also!! My parents were surprised by that. There is not that much to do there but it´s a good place to walk and see the local shops about souvenirs, clothes, chocolate, etc. We had a break in a very good bakery, we took hot chocolate and some typical pastry, it was homemade that morning and it was delicious! Also, the place was really cozy and the woman was kind talking with me, and she asked me if I knew Finnish and I had to speak the basic things I know with her but she was surprised. Fin...
